Jin's Website ^_^

first post, javaboost, carbon copy, and stereo chorus

first post, ive spent so long working on this damn website and once again i've been spending my time on formatting and making it look nice. I know how to do all this stuff but man do I hate UI.

anyways, making this site has been much more fun and better for my own mental health instead of looking for jobs. this is such a miserable experience that I think no one else should go through. I've been writing in my journal, but thats for super personal thoughts, this is site is just for my ramblings about stuff

for example, recently ive been getting into fixing pedals to make some cash on the side. Its not a bad idea, plus I get to learn more about circuits.

the first one i picked up was the keeley java boost. its a simple rangemaster-esque circuit and i was able to contact the manufacturer for help (thanks sean!) turns out the germanium transistor was busted (it was an original oc44). I replaced it initially with a soviet transistor with a weird pinout but it was too big so i had to grab a toshiba 2sxxx. Worked like a charm. I wish I could keep it, this pedal is honestly such a nice sounding boost when both knobs are cranked.

the next one was this maxon stereo chorus cs550. It just had a blown diode cuz some dingus put a huge power supply and killed the damn thing. Despite the fact that it says 10v required, with enough current, you can probably deal with 9V like I did.

The last one was an MXR Carbon Copy. I replaced Q10-Q13, which is known to be killed in the older versions, but I am not sure if that was the issue. I replaced them before I got this shitty oscilliscope from amazon so i couldnt even check the signal path. It didnt work so I checked thru my new osc and i biased all the bbd chips, who knows was the issue was but then it worked fine. Honestly its such a nice sounding analog delay, its like a tape delay sound, its great that it distorts.

otherwise, i got this morley deluxe distortion without a backplate which kinda sucks, but its probably working, the battery connecter is busted. I can probably buy the part for cheap, but Ill have to figure out a backplate replacement.
