mixing and music
Giving an update since I have nothing to release. Lately, I've gotten a lot more immersed in online music communities. More specifically, Youtaite stuff despite not being familiar with Vocaloid songs/culture. As someone who likes j-music, anime, and composing, it's a little surprising that im not into it.
It started with joining a friend's chorus battle group for Reflective Duet Battle (RDB) under the group "garden of eden." My friend was nice enough to be glad to have me in as a mixer despite the lack of Chorus Battle experience. We got two songs down, but could only finish our promo for R1, so we used that. Results came in recently and they really thrashed me with their grades! But it's okay its my first try... even if I feel like I should know what I'm doing. I have improved a lot since then however!
I'm also in another group, for KACB (idk what this one stands for) in a group called Absentia, which has been an interesting dynamic. 7 vocalists has been a wild mix, but I think I've gained enough experience to do decently. Probably because ive been doing so much mixing for ppl on the CB discord for funsies. its good practice.
One thing that has helped me has been this
Sound On Sound article about the engineer for TWICE. Honestly the only kind of mixing I've done is either live, or only instrumentals. I try really hard to not be a snob about this stuff, but maybe I should have more refined tastes. Anyways, that article has been so helpful with learning how to deal with vocals, especially a lot of them. This track I separated by solo, duet, and chorus sections to get the leveling even, or at least make it easier. I think it's coming out well, but we don't have a lot of time left.
Also, as I mentioned before, I've been composing a lot of stuff, and today (yesterday? 2 days ago? its 1am) I presented it to the garden of eden group to see if they wanted to sing over it and they all got excited and I got a lot of praise (yippee!!!). It's the most idol like song I've composed so I figured it would be best to do it in a group with a lot of vocalists.
I do have other songs that are basically done and need vocals, but I'm not sure if I want to have other people sing on it... maybe Kasane Teto. I wanted to get it done a lot faster so I could keep up with a monthly upload schedule, on my youtube channel, but that was a loss. I gotta think of more visual related stuff for the platform. Audio is easy, video is hard.
I think I'm getting into a groove of things despite my fucked up sleep schedule. Maybe if I keep trying, I can make some money with it too, but I'm just happy I get to do this all day.
Still job searching though.
